Maricopa is Fastest-Growing County in U.S.
222 People/Day Added in 2016
Maricopa County is the fastest-growing county in the nation, according to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau. Maricopa County added more than 81,000 people in 2016, moving it ahead of the previous pace-setter Harris County, TX (home to Houston).
“Phoenix is a great jobs market right now,” said Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Denny Barney, District 1. “We’ve got a lot of great economic drivers: manufacturing, bioscience, healthcare, and aerospace. People are coming here for jobs and that’s good for the economy.”
Maricopa County is home to more than 4.2 million people. It is the fourth most populous county in the United States, behind Los Angeles County, Cook County, IL (Chicago), and Harris County, TX.
In a recent op-ed, Supervisor Steve Chucri, District 2, elaborated on the reasons why he believes this kind of growth is good for the community.
