Incentives and Grants

The Maricopa County Air Quality Department (MCAQD) offers air pollution reduction programs for businesses, the community, and local government. Many of these programs offer financial incentives or grants for implementing clean air technologies and addressing air quality issues throughout Maricopa County.

Maricopa County Fireplace Retrofit Program 

The Maricopa County Fireplace Retrofit Program (MCFRP) is a program designed to reduce air pollution from wood burning fireplaces and provides residents cleaner air to breathe. If a home is already plumbed for natural gas, the program will provide a voucher for up to $2,000 to cover the cost of the installation of a natural gas log set.

Maricopa County Propane Fire Pit Program 

In an effort to improve air quality and reduce air pollution caused by outdoor wood burning in fire pits, MCAQD created the Propane Fire Pit Program. In partnership with the Arizona Propane Gas Association, the Propane Education and Research Council, and Home Depot, MCAQD offers this program to all residents of Maricopa County. Launched in 2017, the program provides vouchers for discounts towards the purchase of new propane fire pits.

Diesel Emissions Reduction Program (DERA)

The State Clean Diesel Grant Program was created under the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The act gave the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the ability to promote reductions in diesel emissions by giving states the ability to provide grant monies. These annual grants are used to provide funding for local fleets to replace, repower, or retrofit older higher emitting diesel engines with newer diesels or newer vehicles that use alternative fuels.

Mowing Down Pollution 

In an effort to improve air quality and reduce air pollution produced by gasoline powered lawn and garden equipment, MCAQD created the Mowing Down Pollution Program. This lawn and garden equipment replacement program is available to residents of Maricopa County. In partnership with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, the program provides up to $200 in vouchers towards the purchase of a new electric or battery powered lawn mower and lawn and garden device when the old working gasoline powered equipment is recycled.

Voluntary Vehicle Repair Program

The Voluntary Vehicle Repair (VVR) Program provides owners of eligible vehicles with financial assistance to help offset the cost of repairs needed to pass a failed emissions test.

Electric Vehicle Charging Locator Map

MCAQD developed the Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Locator Map as a resource for cities, towns, planning organizations, and the public. This map identifies where existing public EV charging infrastructures are located, and where additional infrastructures could be installed.
